La Oliva keeps backing sport at FITUR, inside and outside IFEMA

La Oliva continues expanding the horizons of sun, beach and physical activity that characterize the north of Fuerteventura.

Sport in La Oliva is now a way of life. Renovated facilities, year‑round sporting events and an unrivalled landscape are some of the reasons the municipality has become the chosen spot for physical activity—not only for locals but also for visitors to the island of Fuerteventura. Under this premise, the La Oliva City Council, through its Sports Department headed by Gleiber Carreño, is promoting a vision that goes beyond sun and beach to highlight one of the most active sectors in the municipality: sport.

In 2025 the council made its first public appearance at FITUR, placing the northern municipality under the spotlight of the international tourism sector with an official presentation at FITUR Sports and an event focused on recruiting sporting ambassadors who showcase the north’s unique charm.

Following the success of that initiative, La Oliva’s Sports Department is once again centering its promotion on a FITUR‑related event, this time outside IFEMA. The goal is to build on last year’s momentum and attract athletes and other high‑profile personalities from the national and international scene—such as Olympic gold‑medalist Ruth Beitia, national rugby player Manu Moreno, and teams like Los Titanes de Madrid or Megavoltios Club (featured in the ‘Sneakz’ store of YouTuber Byre)—to become ambassadors of the municipality’s lifestyle.

“For another year we want to get the most out of the annual FITUR meeting, which is why we decided to continue with this external‑IFEMA gathering. The sport‑tourism duo remains one of the main attractions of our municipality, and by recruiting sport ambassadors we aim to reach audiences we haven’t been able to reach with traditional promotion,” said Isaí Blanco, mayor of La Oliva.

Gleiber Carreño, councilor for Sports, explained why the fair provides a unique platform for the new event:

“Beyond the usual poster presentations and interviews that take place inside IFEMA, we are using the FITUR setting to promote the destination to a more specialised audience. This meeting aims precisely that—to showcase La Oliva’s sport in a different way, seeking new ambassadors for the physical activities that thrive in our municipality and thereby expanding its sporting appeal to both national and international visitors.”
