La Oliva launches 125 public homes and new parking by the bus station

The La Oliva City Council is moving forward with the construction of 125 public homes in Corralejo—77 on Palangre Street managed by ICAVI and 48 in Panorama Tres Islas via VISOCAN—while confirming a new modular parking lot next to the bus station, funded with a €1 million grant from the Canary Islands Government.

Public Housing in Corralejo

The Canary Islands Institute of Housing (ICAVI) will build 77 protected homes on Palangre Street in Corralejo. The project was tendered in July, with the award announced in August 2025. The expected investment is around €10.5 million, which also covers garage spaces attached to the building.

The municipal council approved the construction licence for these 77 units in February 2025.

In parallel, the municipal plenary initially approved the allocation of 6,387 m² to VISOCAN for 48 homes in the Panorama Tres Islas (Morro Francisco) area. The agreement, signed on 26 September 2024, is still pending final transfer and subsequent procedures.

Rental Conditions and Access

The local authority has indicated that the developments will be oriented toward social rental, applying a municipal reference that caps rent at no more than 20 % of the IPREM (the public income index).

“We are aware of the island’s rental prices. With these projects we take a first step toward improving the situation in the municipality,” – Isaí Blanco, Mayor.

“Our goal is to make La Oliva a safe and affordable place where every family has a roof over its head,” – Julio Santana, First Deputy Mayor.

For the broader regional framework on social rental and eligibility, see the VISOCAN guidelines.

Parking: Project Status

The council will create a modular parking structure next to the Corralejo bus station, financed by a €1 million subsidy granted by the Government of the Canary Islands in January 2025.

A proposal for a second parking lot on Palangre Street (the former CAAF site) conflicts with the current plan for the 77 public homes; it could only be used temporarily as a parking area.

As of the latest update, no tender documents have been published for two simultaneous parking projects. However, the grant and project details for the bus‑station parking are recorded in the public procurement platform.

Expected Impact

The combined actions amount to 125 planned public homes in Corralejo (77 on Palangre Street and 48 in Panorama Tres Islas) plus a new parking facility at the bus station. The council argues that these measures respond to the municipality’s demographic pressure, aiming to improve access to decent housing and increase parking availability in the northern part of the island.
