La Oliva Provides Land Needed to Upgrade Lajares Crossing

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura and the La Oliva City Council continue to advance the municipality’s infrastructure upgrades. The municipal corporation is collaborating on a key project: the improvement works on the Lajares crossing, by making the necessary land available to carry out the conditioning and accessibility works on the FV‑109 road as it passes through the population centre of Los Lajares.

This initiative, promoted by the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, not only includes the road upgrade but also a specific addendum for the development of the local sanitation network, thereby strengthening basic services and the quality of life for residents.

The plenary session of the La Oliva City Council will approve this land transfer within the framework of inter‑administrative cooperation between the two institutions, allowing progress on a project crucial for road safety, accessibility, and sustainable urban development in the municipality.

“Collaboration between administrations is essential to implement strategic projects like this. Improving the FV‑109 in Los Lajares is a necessary action that will advance accessibility, mobility, and basic services for the population,” said Lola García, President of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura.

In March, the Cabildo definitively approved the project, which exceeds €4 million, adding that “the land transfer is a fundamental step to be able to tender the works that are highly demanded by the community.” The project addresses the needs of a road segment that has seen a sharp increase in traffic through Lajares, coupled with the opening of numerous shops that generate significant pedestrian flow. Coordination with the La Oliva City Council is vital for its development, including sanitation conditioning tasks.

“This project responds to a historic demand from the residents of Los Lajares. From the City Council we continue working with other administrations to provide real solutions, improve safety, and modernise our infrastructure,” emphasized Isai Blanco, Mayor of La Oliva.

The project is part of the island‑wide plan to improve the road network and represents a major step in the transformation of Lajares, one of the fastest‑growing population centres in the municipality.

With this initiative, the Cabildo and the La Oliva City Council reaffirm their commitment to balanced territorial development and the continuous improvement of citizens’ living conditions.
