La Oliva Tenders First Phase of El Cotillo Promenade
The La Oliva Town Council has put out to tender the first phase of the El Cotillo maritime promenade, a project that the coastal locality has been demanding for several years. The bidding period for offers will remain open until August 20, with a base budget of 482,000 euros.
In a statement, the council highlighted that the investment fulfills one of the government group’s commitments and is supported by financing from the “Naturalmente La Oliva” Tourist Sustainability Plan at Destination, framed within the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and financed by the European Union - Next Generation EU.
From the lime kilns to the Torre del Tostón
This first phase involves the construction of the promenade between the Torre de El Tostón and the end of the lime kilns. Among the project’s objectives are improving lighting, accessibility, and landscape integration of the environment, with special attention to the lime kilns, declared a Site of Cultural Interest in the Ethnological Site category.
The intervention seeks to improve the connection between the urban landscape and the natural environment, as well as to promote the dissemination of the area’s historical heritage, enhancing one of the most representative enclaves of the La Oliva municipality and Fuerteventura.
A commitment similar to the Corralejo promenade
Mayor Isaí Blanco valued the progress of the project as part of the municipal commitment to improving coastal infrastructure: “We continue to take steps to fulfill two of the most important infrastructure commitments. After the progress in the Corralejo promenade, we continue with the first phase of the El Cotillo promenade, while we are already working on the authorizations for subsequent phases.”
The Councilor for Contracting, Juan José Rodríguez, added that “as a resident of El Cotillo, I know firsthand how the promenade project has always been one of the issues with the most improvement requests from the town.”
Rodríguez also highlighted that “thanks to the European Funds Office, we are making this historical demand a tangible reality, in which we not only value our natural environment, but we also emphasize the lime kilns, a Site of Cultural Interest with great relevance not only for the history of our municipality, but also for the entire island of Fuerteventura.”
