La Oliva tenders the first phase of El Cotillo's seafront promenade

Published on Wednesday, August 06, 2025 - 11:36 AM

The La Oliva Town Council, through the Contracting Department led by Juan José Rodríguez, has opened the bidding process for the first phase of the El Cotillo seaside promenade. This project, valued at nearly €482,000 secured by the European Funds Office under Rodríguez’s leadership, is financed through the “Naturalmente La Oliva” Tourist Sustainability Plan at Destination and is framed within the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, funded by the European Union - Next Generation EU. Interested companies will have until August 20 to submit their bids.

In this first phase, construction of the promenade will proceed from the Torre de El Tostón to the end of the lime kilns. The importance of this public space intervention lies not only in the historical demand from the people of El Cotillo, but also because it is a characteristic natural enclave in the municipality. In addition to its landscape value, the heritage and ethnographic value of the traditional lime kilns, declared a Site of Cultural Interest in the Ethnological Site category, should also be highlighted.

In this sense, the main objective is the integration between the urban landscape and the natural environment, where through the renovation and relocation of the promenade’s lighting and the improvement of accessibility in the area, the lime kilns will be highlighted, thus promoting the dissemination of the island’s history.

La Oliva Mayor Isaí Blanco states: “We continue to take steps to fulfill two of the most important commitments regarding infrastructure. Following the progress in the Corralejo promenade, we continue with the first phase of the El Cotillo promenade, while we are already working on the authorizations for subsequent phases.”

For his part, Councilor for Contracting, Juan José Rodríguez, highlights the need to respond to this demand from the coastal town: “As a resident of El Cotillo, I know firsthand how the promenade project has always been one of the issues with the most requests for improvement from the town.”

Similarly, Rodríguez adds: “Thanks to the European Funds Office, we are making this historical demand a tangible reality, where not only is our natural environment valued, but emphasis is placed on the lime kilns, a Site of Cultural Interest with great relevance not only for the history of our municipality, but for the entire island of Fuerteventura.”

This action responds to one of the most significant commitments of the local government, through the improvement of public space, ensuring the quality and accessibility of one of the most outstanding natural and heritage sites on the island.
