La Oliva's People's Party to study a regulated caravan and motorhome zone

The initiative, rejected by the governing coalition, aimed to analyze its technical, legal and economic viability to regulate this form of tourism in the municipality.

The Popular Group in the La Oliva Town Hall defended, during the ordinary plenary session in February, a motion to launch a study of a specific parking and service zone dedicated to caravans and motorhomes. The proposal was turned down by the governing coalition, formed by CC‑AM and PSOE.

The initiative called for the preparation of a technical, legal and economic study to assess the feasibility of this infrastructure and its fit within municipal planning. As the Popular spokesperson, José Vicente Calero, explained:

“It is not about promoting anything new, but about ordering a reality that already exists in our municipality.”

The motion envisaged examining possible locations that comply with urban planning regulations and studying the implementation of basic services, such as potable‑water supply points, grey‑water and black‑water disposal areas connected to an authorized network, and specific signage. In the spokesperson’s words:

“The goal was to provide legal certainty, protect the environment, and guarantee neighborly coexistence.”

The Popular Party notes that other municipalities, both on the mainland and in the Canary Islands, have developed similar solutions to reconcile environmental sustainability with the economic activity linked to itinerant tourism.

The Popular Group says it will continue presenting initiatives related to the organization of public space and the planning of services adapted to the various tourism demands of the municipality.
