Lanzarote Calero Sailing Team wraps up the 44Cup World Championship, eyes set on Fuerteventura
The final regatta of the 44Cup season will be held from November 19 to 23 at Marina Jandía
Fuerteventura will become, in November, the ideal venue for one of the most important events in the sailing world, the 44Cup. It is an international circuit contested with the RC44 yacht, a 13.45‑metre (44‑foot) monohull built from carbon fibre and equipped with the most advanced technologies available.
This year the season finale will close in Fuerteventura. After the last race held in the Netherlands, the competitors arrive in Canary waters with high hopes, and in this respect the Canarian team will be on home turf. The new marina at the port of Morro Jable will be the stage where top‑level sailing will be experienced with intensity.
Lanzarote Calero Sailing Team, the sole Spanish representative in the 44Cup, finished in eleventh place at the World Championship held in Scheveningen, after four days of extreme conditions in the North Sea, with gusts exceeding 35 knots and a highly demanding race program. The Monegasque Nika claimed his fifth RC44 world title.
In this setting, the team secured a fifth‑place finish in one of the toughest legs of the championship, as well as several first‑place upwind marks, confirming that it can sail at the same pace as the leading teams and continue consolidating its progress in the class.
“With a few adjustments and racing in Canary waters we see the possibility of a great season finale. Having competed in such a demanding championship and achieving a fifth place in a key leg shows us that we are getting ever closer to the top teams. The team keeps growing and learning,” said owner Daniel Calero.
The Lanzarote Calero Sailing Team develops this project with the support of Turismo de Lanzarote and the Arts, Culture and Tourism Centers of the Lanzarote Cabildo, together with Calero Marinas and Calmar as strategic partners. It also counts on EquipYacht and Alegra Travels for equipment and logistics, and receives technical backing from Harken, Gottifredi Maffioli, North Sails and Magic Marine, as well as international sponsorship from Lanzarote Investment and John D. Wood & Co.
The 2025 44Cup season will conclude at Marina Jandía, Fuerteventura, from November 19 to 23, at the new Calero Marinas sports marina, where the Spanish team hopes to leverage its accumulated experience to achieve its best result of the year.
