Lola García: We Continue Investing in Modern Sports Facilities Across the Island

The Island Athletics Center (CAIF) in Corralejo has installed the first Cubo Fit in a public sports facility. This innovative equipment reinforces the island’s commitment to more complete, functional venues that meet today’s athletes’ needs.

The project was made possible by the Strategic Plan for Island‑Interest Sports Infrastructure and marks another step in the continuous improvement of a venue that has become a reference point for athletics on Fuerteventura. The Cubo Fit, designed as a compact functional‑training unit, combines strength, endurance and coordination exercises, allowing athletes to carry out comprehensive preparation comfortably, efficiently, and right at the trackside.

“We continue investing in equipping our sports facilities with modern and versatile resources that contribute to improving the performance of our athletes and promote healthy lifestyle habits. The CAIF is a key infrastructure for island sport,” said Lola García, President of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, during the equipment reception ceremony.

Luis González, the island’s Sports Counselor, highlighted the importance of maintaining and upgrading existing facilities. Through the Island‑Interest Sports Infrastructure program, a minimum of €30,000 per year has been allocated to municipalities, ensuring that sports venues remain in perfect condition, become more accessible to the public, and support the development of all sports disciplines on the island.

Gleiber Carreño, Sports Councilor of the Municipality of La Oliva, welcomed the new resource. During the event, a collaboration agreement was signed between the two administrations to continue promoting joint projects for the maintenance and improvement of Fuerteventura’s sports facilities.
