Majanicho track needs repair after rains
The People’s Party (PP) has demanded an “immediate and urgent” intervention from the Cabildo of Fuerteventura and the La Oliva Town Hall to repair the dirt track that links Corralejo and El Cotillo via Majanicho. The party argues that the road’s deteriorated condition endangers safety and hampers traffic flow.
According to the PP, the stretch is heavily used by local residents, fishermen, athletes and tourists. Recent months of heavy rain and a lack of maintenance have caused sinkholes and overall degradation, which, in the party’s view, now complicates passage.
The PP also notes that the northern coastal track is frequented by visitors heading to spots such as Playa del Mejillón, especially to watch the sunset, making its proper conditioning essential.
“We request that the island authority act immediately and mobilise the necessary resources to restore the road,” said Claudio Gutiérrez, PP spokesperson in the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, referring to the frequent use of the “receiving train” that traverses the path.
On the municipal side, José Vicente Calero, PP spokesperson for the La Oliva Town Hall, urged the local governing coalition to demand the Cabildo’s involvement, emphasizing that the issue is fundamentally one of public safety.
Both representatives, in a joint statement, called for coordinated action by the two administrations to restore the functionality of this strategic northern coastal route.
