Man arrested for assaulting his partner on the ferry to Morro Jable

Agents of the General Police Corps of the Canary Islands, deployed to Fuerteventura and attached to the Prevention and Intervention Unit (UPRI), detained an adult male suspected of committing injuries and threats within the context of gender‑based violence.

The incident occurred inside a passenger ferry traveling between Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura. The ship’s captain reported the situation to the Emergency and Security Coordination Center (112), prompting the officers to proceed to the port of Morro Jable, in the municipality of Pájara, where they awaited the vessel’s arrival.

After reaching the scene, the police collected a verbal complaint from the victim and testimonies from a passenger and a flight attendant who witnessed the assault. The suspect was then taken into custody. Both the detainee and the investigative files have been forwarded to the Court of Puerto del Rosario.

This operation is part of the preventive and operational actions carried out by the Prevention and Intervention Unit under the citizen‑security shock plan launched on the island by the Presidency of the Government of the Canary Islands. It reinforces the commitment of the General Police Corps of the Canary Islands to protect victims of gender‑based violence and uphold fundamental rights.
