Man arrested for brutally assaulting victim to rob them in southern Fuerteventura
In the “PUSILK” operation, the Civil Guard has detained one of the alleged perpetrators, while the second remains missing. The suspects followed the victim inside a well‑known shopping centre, struck him violently and stole his belongings.
The Civil Guard of the Morro Jable Main Station concluded the “PUSILK” operation with the arrest of one of the two suspected assailants; the other is still at large, although he has already been identified.
The investigation, carried out over a week, began after a complaint filed by a foreign resident of the island.
“I was approached by several unknown men as I was heading home after drinking with friends. They hit me from behind, delivering hard punches with their hands. When I fell to the ground, they kept attacking me with kicks,” the victim recounted.
As a result of the assault, the complainant suffered facial injuries, including multiple abrasions and two open wounds that required suturing: eleven stitches on the forehead and six on the right eyebrow.
Police from the Investigation Unit of the Morro Jable Main Station conducted the necessary inquiries and various measures aimed at clarifying the facts.
The first step was to reconstruct the events, since the victim could not recall key details due to alcohol consumption.
During the investigation, security camera footage from the shopping centre was reviewed. It showed the victim entering the premises and, as he approached a staircase, being confronted by two hooded men who struck and shook him until he fell. Once on the ground, they continued kicking him and stole his bag, extracting the wallet before fleeing and leaving the victim on the floor.
Later, the victim managed to call a friend on his mobile phone. The friend arrived, helped him stand, and took him to a medical centre.
Investigators performed a thorough analysis of the area, gathering various pieces of information. Given the seriousness of the injuries and the possibility that the perpetrators might leave the island, police raided nearby premises to obtain additional footage that could aid the investigation.
These efforts allowed authorities to reconstruct the route taken by the suspects both outside and inside the shopping centre, leading to their full identification.
A joint operation with the Crime Prevention Patrols of the Morro Jable Main Station resulted in the arrest of one suspect, as the second had already left the island.
The detainee was placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities, with the case files handed over to the Instruction Section of the Puerto del Rosario Court of First Instance on duty, which ordered his incarceration.
The Civil Guard continues its efforts to locate and arrest the second perpetrator.
