Manuel Hernández: Court of Auditors confirms the CC‑PP government’s investment marginalization of the island

The PSOE of Fuerteventura has denounced that the latest report from the Court of Accounts of the Canary Islands shows, according to the socialist party, a regression for the island in the territorially‑based allocation of investments and transfers by the regional government.

Manuel Hernández Cerezo, deputy secretary‑general of the Majorero PSOE and regional deputy, said that the 2024 General Account report of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands “puts in black and white” a situation of marginalization towards Fuerteventura in investment matters.

According to the data presented by the socialist leader, per‑capita investment in Fuerteventura fell 22.9 % between 2023 and 2024, dropping from €274.81 per inhabitant to €211.81. He also noted that per‑capita capital transfers recorded a decline of 21.3 %, decreasing from €426.23 to €335.34.

The PSOE also asserts that the island lost relative weight in the regional distribution of current‑account transfers, falling from 2.74 % to 2.63 % of the total regional amount.

Hernández Cerezo emphasized that this situation particularly affects an island that, he recalled, leads the population growth of the Canary Islands and faces significant needs in housing, health, educational infrastructure, roads, and water supply.

The socialist leader also highlighted the low budget execution rate for the investments planned for Fuerteventura. The Court of Accounts report places execution at 43.41 %, well below other territories such as Tenerife or La Palma.

“While other islands advance in the execution of their investments, Fuerteventura falls behind,” Hernández Cerezo said.

The PSOE of Fuerteventura argues that the data reveal a lack of commitment from the Canary Islands Government to the island and calls for a balanced and transparent distribution of autonomous public investment.

The socialist party affirmed it will continue demanding greater attention to Fuerteventura’s needs and an increase in investments destined for the island.
