Manuel Hernández (

The PSOE of Fuerteventura has launched a strong critique of the speech delivered on Tuesday by Canary Islands President Fernando Clavijo at the opening of the Debate on the State of the Nationality.

Main points of the criticism

  • “Confirmation of abandonment” – Hernández says Clavijo’s remarks “confirm the abandonment that Fuerteventura suffers from the current autonomous executive.”
  • No concrete solutions – Throughout the intervention, the president failed to propose specific measures for the island’s most pressing problems, including health, education, dependency care and access to housing.
  • Missing economic relief – The speech omitted any measures to lower the cost of the grocery basket or to curb fuel prices, issues that Hernández argues directly affect the purchasing power of Majoreros and Majoreras.
  • Context of growth – Hernández frames the criticism against a backdrop of demographic and economic expansion on the island, which he says demands greater investment, planning and political decisions.

“Fuerteventura has become during this legislature the great forgotten of the Canary Islands, and this third debate has confirmed it,” the statement read, dated 10 March.

Additional concerns

  • The island still awaits answers on infrastructure, housing, public services and territorial planning.
  • Hernández interprets the president’s silence as evidence of “the absence of a real roadmap to address the island’s needs.”

PSOE’s response

The PSOE of Fuerteventura announced that it will continue to defend the investments and policies the island needs in the Parliament of the Canary Islands, while pressuring the autonomous government for equal treatment and a stronger commitment to Fuerteventura’s development.
