Manuel Velázquez Cabrera Foundation Inaugurates Classroom 2026 in Tiscamanita

On Thursday, 26 February, at 19:30, the solemn inauguration of Classroom XV of the Manuel Velázquez Cabrera Foundation will take place at the Casa del Maestro in Tiscamanita. Admission is free while seats last.

Since its creation, the Foundation has worked to preserve and disseminate the ideals of the majorero Manuel Velázquez Cabrera, regarded as one of the founding fathers of the Island Councils and a key figure in the current political‑administrative configuration of the Canary Islands. Over the years, the organization has also become a space for dialogue and reflection on the main challenges facing the majorero and Canarian societies.

“Building bridges, sowing the future”

“Building bridges, sowing the future.”

The 2026 Classroom will develop under the motto “Building bridges, sowing the future,” continuing the theme of the two previous editions. Its goal is to bring together majorero experiences and those from other fields that demonstrate alternatives and reasons for hope in a complex global context.

Throughout the year, the program will tackle major issues affecting humanity, featuring speakers of recognized prestige and combining theoretical analysis with concrete experiences—both local and international. In this way, the Foundation positions Fuerteventura as a potential laboratory for transformative initiatives and future seeds.

All conferences will be held on Thursdays at 19:30 at the Foundation’s headquarters, always keeping an open space for dialogue with the public.

Inaugural Conference

The inauguration on 26 February will be attended by Lola García, President of the Fuerteventura Island Council, and Miguel Cabrera, President of the Foundation.

The inaugural lecture will be delivered by economist Santiago Álvarez Cantalapiedra, who will present the paper titled “Towards a New Social and International Order.”

Álvarez Cantalapiedra holds a Ph.D. in International Economics from the Complutense University of Madrid and currently directs the FUHEM Ecosocial Foundation and the journal Papeles de Relaciones Ecosociales y Cambio Global. His research focuses on the relationships between social welfare, quality of life, and sustainability within the framework of globalization and the current ecosocial crisis.

With this new edition of the Classroom, the Manuel Velázquez Cabrera Foundation reaffirms its commitment to critical reflection and public debate in Fuerteventura, inviting citizens to actively participate in this space of collective thought and construction.
