Maritime Avenue Fire That Was Foreseeable

Firefighters and the local police of the island’s capital intervened to extinguish a blaze that broke out this morning on the first floor between Juan Domínguez Peña and Ruperto González streets.

Residents and shopkeepers say it’s not the first incident in that building

Firefighters and the Puerto del Rosario Local Police were on the scene until the early hours, battling a fire that started in a residence on Avenida Marítima, specifically between Juan Domínguez Peña and Ruperto González streets.

The municipal authorities have not released further details, other than confirming that the flames originated on the floor directly above a well‑known local café.

However, neighbours and merchants consulted by Fuerteventura Digital pointed out that this is not the first disturbance at the property.

The building is occupied by two people who, according to these sources, have previously caused trouble—fights, shouting, and a constant stream of visitors who do not live there.

“The fire could have been intentional, and the disaster was only a matter of time: it was coming,” one resident said.

At the time of publication, no injuries have been reported. The Terra Café, located beneath the burning apartment, was forced to close as a precaution due to the fire and the large volume of water used to douse the flames.
