Mercedes Pinto Catamaran, the latest technology that could head to Morro Jable

Balearia’s vessel, powered by liquefied gas, has completed progressive nitrogen cooling.

The catamaran “Mercedes Pinto,” flagship of Balearia Canarias, has finished its progressive cooling with nitrogen and received its first natural‑gas supply—key milestones in preparing the ship’s systems, Balearia reports, citing the Bridge of Command.

“From here on, a new phase begins: dock‑side engine tests on gas, adjustment of the electrical plant, and optimisation of load distribution before sea trials,” the company added.

The vessel is slated to debut in the Canary Islands in June. Industry sources suggest it could be deployed on the Las Palmas‑Morro Jable route, restoring a daily service, although other options remain under consideration.
