Miguel Rios Heads to Fuerteventura for “The Last Waltz”
The Spanish‑language rock‑and‑roll icon of more than six decades arrives at the Arena Negra festival with the full force of his legend and declares that retirement is not on the agenda.
Miguel Ríos is now on the island as part of his “The Last Waltz” tour, which is hitting the country’s most emblematic venues. He will perform on Friday, 7 November, at 20:30 during the Arena Negra Festival, held this weekend on Gran Tarajal beach.
A pioneer of Spanish rock, Ríos has hit the road again with a new electro‑acoustic set, backed by four multi‑instrumentalists who blend rock and country into a unique sonic experience.
“I’m very happy to be in Fuerteventura, an island I have great memories of from when I played in Puerto del Rosario back in ’92. It was an unforgettable experience. Back then I got to know the north; this time I’ll discover the south of the island.” – Miguel Ríos
He added:
“What struck me then was the respect the people of Fuerteventura have for their land. Today we have festivals like Arena Negra that are strongly focused on eco‑friendly values.”
“Fuerteventura is a marvel of conservation – it’s a sanctuary.”
The “The Last Waltz” tour has already visited major theatres such as Barcelona’s Liceu and Madrid’s Circo Price, and this Friday it reaches the Arena Negra stage, now a benchmark musical and cultural event in the archipelago.
The album The Last Waltz was written by Miguel Ríos together with producer José Nortes and recorded entirely at Madrid’s iconic Black Betty Studios. It represents a fresh challenge for a Spanish music legend, proving that after 65 years on stage he remains as vibrant as ever.
“The title doesn’t signal a retirement; quite the opposite. I’ve become the dean of rock, and I’m thrilled to keep writing new songs. It’s been a long journey, and even the ups and downs teach you a lot. It’s wonderful to get back on your feet.” – Miguel Ríos
