Military Emergency Unit Arrives at Granadilla Port to Transfer Passengers

The Hondius Arrived at Granadilla Port Around Six in the Morning

Two emergency‑response vehicles from the Military Emergency Unit (UME) that will transport the occupants of the cruise ship Hondius from Granadilla Port to Tenerife South Airport have arrived at the port facility.

The disembarkation of passengers has not yet begun, but as dawn breaks the deployment of the team that will take part in the operation is gradually unfolding, including Civil Guard officers equipped with PPE.

Meanwhile, the ship remains anchored inside the port where a Maritime Rescue vessel and a Civil Guard patrol boat are deployed, while a helicopter from the same corps flies over the installation.

The Hondius arrived at Granadilla Port around six a.m. local time, and numerous international media outlets have deployed to report on this “unprecedented” operation to repatriate the passengers, where a hantavirus outbreak has been declared.

“unprecedented”

Health Minister Mónica García, Interior Minister Fernando Grande‑Marlaska, and Territorial Policy Minister Ángel Víctor Torres have traveled to Tenerife to supervise the operation.
