Municipal council drives first bus stop in Nuevo Horizonte industrial park, a historic demand in Antigua
La actuación, tras completar el Cabildo todos los pasos técnicos y operativos, queda pendiente del trámite municipal necesario para su puesta en marcha.
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura is launching the first regular inter‑urban bus stop in the Nuevo Horizonte Industrial Park, located in the municipality of Antigua, responding to a long‑standing demand from workers, users and local businesses.
Until now, the Nuevo Horizonte Industrial Park lacked any bus stop within its premises, making public transport access difficult in one of the island’s key commercial zones.
The new stop, placed within the commercial area, has been designed with road‑safety and passenger‑comfort criteria. It has received approval from the Traffic Department and the concessionaire ALSA, which has already completed successful test runs on the route.
The Cabildo has already applied to the Antigua City Council for the final authorization needed to complete the project. This includes adapting the stop platform and installing a shelter—essential steps for the stop to become operational on lines 3 and 16.
“With this initiative we meet a historic demand in an area that previously had no suitable pick‑up point,” said the President of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura. “Our goal is clear: public transport must reach every corner of the island, especially in a zone with such commercial activity.”
The Transport Councillor added, “The Cabildo continues to improve the island’s transport system. We have already renewed almost half of the fleet, introducing electric buses as part of our decarbonisation strategy, which will also increase service frequency in areas like the Nuevo Horizonte Industrial Park. Moreover, we keep promoting new locations to bring public transport closer to more points across the island, while the Cabildo financially supports the free service.”
This initiative is part of the Cabildo’s broader strategy to expand public‑transport coverage throughout Fuerteventura.
