Municipal Council Restores Pedestrian Path Between School and Tesejerague Hermitage
The island corporation clears the obstacles that halted the works and re‑activates the project on almost 1,000 m²
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura, through its Infrastructure Service, has restarted work on a pedestrian walkway linking the CEIP Tesejerague school and the local hermitage. The works had been suspended due to technical and administrative issues that the Cabildo has now resolved, allowing the project to move forward again. Funding comes from the Island Cooperation Plan for Works and Services and the Canary Islands Development Fund (Fdcan).
According to President Lola García, the intervention responds to the need to provide a safe, accessible footpath for the route between the CEIP and the hermitage, especially for the school’s students, thereby improving both mobility and overall safety for the community.
“This small intervention will have a great impact on road safety for schoolchildren, families and residents in general.”
— Infrastructure Counselor Blas Acosta
The new walkway aims to create a dedicated pedestrian space along the stretch between the CEIP and the hermitage. It will be designed to meet universal accessibility standards and ensure user safety. The project involves widening the existing footpath along the FV‑511 road, installing appropriate protective measures, and implementing proper rain‑water drainage and an irrigation system for the newly planted vegetation.
Key specifications:
- Total surface area: 976.60 m²
- Sufficient width to accommodate pedestrian traffic safely
- Integrated drainage and irrigation infrastructure
The resumed works are expected to enhance the daily experience of students, families, and local residents who use this route.
