Nearly 100 cheeses compete in the 22nd National Goat Milk Cheese Contest – Tabefe Awards at FEAGA 2026

A total of one hundred cheeses from the Canary Islands and other regions are taking part in the 22nd National Goat‑Milk Cheese Competition – Tabefe Awards, which kicked off on Friday as part of the Agricultural, Livestock and Fisheries Fair of Fuerteventura (FEAGA) 2026.

The competition, now one of the fair’s flagship events, brings together producers who showcase their cheeses to highlight the quality of goat cheese, one of the most emblematic products of the primary sector.

The jury is composed of fifteen professional tasters from diverse backgrounds—including regulatory councils, specialised associations, the scientific community and the restaurant sector—ensuring a technically rigorous evaluation process.

During the opening ceremony, the jurors were welcomed by Lola García, President of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura; Enrique Pérez, Councillor for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries; Andrés Díaz, Director General of Livestock; and Luis Arráez, Director of the Canary Institute of Agro‑Food Quality.

President García underscored the competition’s long history, now exceeding twenty editions, and highlighted its status as a hallmark of FEAGA and its role in promoting the quality of local products.

From the Agriculture department, the importance of specialised tasters was emphasized, noting that their work is crucial for the contest’s development and for recognising producers.

The Canary Institute of Agro‑Food Quality also highlighted its collaboration with the Cabildo in organising this national‑level competition, which is considered a benchmark within the sector.

The National Goat‑Milk Cheese Competition – Tabefe Awards is part of FEAGA 2026’s programme, a fair that continues to drive the promotion of the primary sector and the recognition of high‑quality agri‑food products.
