New actions to improve the surroundings of El Charco’s lime kilns
The Charco waterfront receives new safety, lighting, and accessibility upgrades in this heritage‑rich area, the Puerto del Rosario council said, to strengthen its conservation and appeal
The municipal government of Puerto del Rosario continues its program of improvement, adaptation, and valorisation of the Lime Ovens area, located in the Charco neighbourhood, with the aim of restoring, protecting, and dignifying this space of high patrimonial, historical, and cultural value.
Two key projects are currently under way to achieve a comprehensive upgrade of the site: the installation of a new low‑voltage lighting system and a series of works to enhance the surrounding environment. These measures will reinforce safety, improve accessibility, and make the area more attractive both for residents and for visitors to the capital.
The initiatives are being carried out in collaboration with Gestión de Proyectos y Estudios Turísticos en Canarias, S.A.U. MP (GESPROTUR), a body attached to the Canary Islands Government’s Department of Tourism and Employment. Their support is essential for promoting projects that pursue a sustainable tourism development model that respects local heritage.
“The recovery of spaces like the Lime Ovens not only means preserving our historical heritage, but also creating places for community gathering and enjoyment, while strengthening the municipality’s identity and tourist appeal,” said Mayor David de Vera of Puerto del Rosario.
“These projects reflect a clear commitment to valorise our cultural and natural resources, integrating them into the municipality’s tourism offer and simultaneously improving the quality of life for the residents of the Charco neighbourhood,” added Tourism Councilor Rosa Rodríguez.
