New Award for Majorero Talent

The Majorero production company Árida Films has completed filming “Stay Tuned”, a teaser created thanks to the honorary mention it received in the “Consumers and Action!” competition organized by Netflix and the OCU. The recognition allowed the team to bring to the screen the script of an original short film.

The work, directed by Miquel Jaume, produced by Adrián Tejero, assisted by Míriam Álamo, and shot by cinematographer Elián Gimelli, was presented on 5 November at the gala celebrating the OCU’s 50th anniversary in Madrid. The event was attended by the Minister of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs and the 2030 Agenda, Mr. Bustinduy, as well as representatives from Netflix Spain.

“It’s a golden opportunity to get noticed by Netflix and, who knows, maybe even sell the feature‑film project,” explained the director of the piece.

The shoot was carried out by the Árida Films crew, composed of young talents from the archipelago.

“Stay Tuned” is a satirical comedy inspired by films such as Wild Tales and Falling Down. The story follows the frustration of an elderly caretaker whose electricity is mistakenly cut off; despite his repeated complaints, he is ignored. The plot highlights the essential role of the OCU in defending consumer rights.

According to the director,

“It’s a universal story that reflects very common situations of social injustice, and it moves away from the superhero image to champion the ordinary citizen. This project represents a step forward in our artistic careers and opens the possibility of continuing to develop our own, original productions that are consistent with my creative style.”
