New drone flight triggers Saturday delays at Fuerteventura Airport
Air traffic controllers report a new incident involving drones
The Fuerteventura airport’s operations have once again been compromised by the presence of drones in its vicinity, according to the official X account of the air traffic controllers.
At the time of writing (7:40 a.m. on Saturday, 18 October 2025) several flights approaching El Matorral airport were placed on hold. Airport sources confirmed that multiple drones were detected, but the signal was eventually jammed and normal operations resumed at 8:50 a.m.
This is the fourth occurrence since June in which unauthorized drones have entered the restricted airspace around the approach and departure zones, halting flight operations at El Matorral.
“We are dealing with another drone incident that forced us to suspend arrivals temporarily,” the controllers posted.
A few days earlier, a foreign national was caught flying a drone north of Caleta de Fuste, claiming ignorance of the regulations. He was subsequently fined by the Guardia Civil.
