New Electric Vehicle Charging Station Opens in La Lajita
With the addition in La Lajita, the island‑wide charging network now has 17 operational points, all commissioned by the Cabildo across Fuerteventura.
Press release
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura, through the Department of Industry, has put into service a new fast‑charging station (50 kW) in the municipality of Pájara, specifically in the locality of La Lajita. The move continues the Corporation’s effort to modernise the island’s electric‑vehicle charging network.
The new charger represents an investment of €38,500.40 and becomes part of the public island‑wide charging infrastructure. The current network comprises 17 operational points distributed across the north‑centre and south of the island:
- 6 fast‑charging points (50 kW) in Corralejo, Puerto del Rosario, Gran Tarajal, Betancuria, Morro Jable and La Lajita.
- 2 charging points (10 kW) located in Caleta de Fuste and Costa Calma.
- 9 charging points (22 kW) spread across Corralejo, Lajares, La Oliva, Puerto del Rosario, Pájara and Betancuria.
Official statements
“The project’s progress demonstrates the island’s commitment to the energy transition, modernising and expanding a network that contributes to cleaner and more efficient mobility,” said Lola García, President of the Island Council.
“This new activation is another step in consolidating a modern, accessible and territorially distributed public charging network, which facilitates the use of electric vehicles in every municipality of the island,” emphasized Lolina Negrín, Councillor for Industry.
“The adoption of electric vehicles is a real alternative to fossil fuels and a key element for advancing Fuerteventura’s decarbonisation and sustainability objectives,” Negrín added, noting that the Department will keep promoting infrastructure that reduces environmental impact and helps preserve the natural environment.
Future rollout
The Island Corporation will continue work in the coming weeks to activate the remaining stations needed to complete the public network. Pending installations include:
- Three 50 kW chargers in Antigua, Tuineje and Pájara.
- Five 22 kW chargers in Gran Tarajal, Antigua and Puerto del Rosario.
