New Job Opportunities for Fuerteventura University Students
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura welcomed today the unemployed individuals joining the current edition of the New Employment Opportunities 2025 program. A total of 23 people—recent university and vocational‑training graduates, as well as members of the coordinating and administrative team—will work for one year in various areas of the island corporation.
The Employment Promotion Department is driving the program, which involves an investment of almost €1.1 million.
“From the Cabildo we remain committed to generating employment opportunities to retain talent in Fuerteventura, so that young people can develop their life and professional projects here, building a more promising future for the island,” said Lola García, island president, during the welcome ceremony.
Lola García also thanked the staff who will tutor the participants throughout the year, emphasizing that “their support is essential for this initiative to be possible.”
Nuría Cabrera, the Employment Promotion Counselor, highlighted the program’s success in every edition and noted that the Cabildo has increased its own‑fund contribution, now covering more than 46 % of the financing. She added that the Cabildo continues to maintain agreements that guarantee the best working conditions for all participants.
Other officials present at the ceremony included:
- Marlene Figueroa, Counselor for Tourism, Blue Economy and Biosphere Reserve
- Carlos Rodríguez, Counselor for Environment and Hunting
- Víctor Alonso, Counselor for Social Action and Citizen Participation
- Rayco León, Counselor for Culture, Cultural Heritage and Innovation
The beneficiaries will be assigned to areas such as Human Resources, Culture, Sports, Education and Youth, Employment, Information Technology, Social Action, Land Planning, as well as institutions like the Juan Ismael Art Center, the Museums of Fuerteventura, the Archaeological Museum of Fuerteventura, and autonomous bodies of the Cabildo such as the Island Water Council and the Tourism Board.
The New Employment Opportunities 2025 program is co‑financed by the Canary Employment Service and the European Social Fund Plus (FSE+ Canarias 2021‑2027), with a co‑financing rate of 85 %, aligning with priorities 4 (employment, adaptability, entrepreneurship and social economy) and 5 (youth employment).
Beyond this co‑financing, the non‑subsidized portion of the project is jointly funded by the Cabildo of Fuerteventura and the Government of the Canary Islands through the Canary Development Fund (FDCAN).
