New Shaded Areas for Tesejerague and Tiscamanita

.

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura is responding to the Tuineje Town Council’s request to create shaded zones in public spaces.

Project Overview

Residents of Tesejerague and Tiscamanita will soon have two wooden pergolas that provide shade in areas intended for public use and enjoyment, thanks to the Cabildo of Fuerteventura’s Works and Machinery Service.

Program Context

The works are part of the “Fuerteventura, Beautiful by Nature” program, which includes actions to preserve natural and urban spaces across all municipalities, as noted by island president Lola García.

“Actions that are important to preserve every corner of Fuerteventura.”

In this case, the request from the Tuineje Town Council has been addressed, and the wooden structures are already being treated and protected.

Benefits and Collaboration

Works Minister Blas Acosta highlighted the collective benefit of these twin projects, linking them to the program’s spirit:

“The spirit of the ‘Fuerteventura, Beautiful by Nature’ program, which is based on contributing to the improvement of citizens’ quality of life and caring for natural environments through small, close‑to‑home actions such as creating shade spaces.”

He added that the initiative exemplifies inter‑administrative cooperation:

“The policy of collaboration and coordination of public resources between administrations provides a solid foundation for improving the outcomes of any initiative, whether it’s a large infrastructure or, seemingly simple, pergolas that, nevertheless, have the capacity to improve people’s daily lives.”

Implementation Details

The pergola materials are already stored at Gesplan’s South Operations Base in El Cuchillete, where crews are applying protective coatings to ensure durability and resistance to weather erosion. Once the wood treatment is complete, the teams will install the two pergolas.

Design of the Pergolas

  • Tiscamanita: A two‑slope pergola designed to cover the stage of the town square.
  • Tesejerague: An L‑shaped, single‑slope pergola that will provide shade and continuity to the space.
