One of Two Suspects Arrested After Attempted Forced Robbery at El Castillo Business
He was detained 24 hours after the incident despite unauthorized media dissemination of security‑camera footage.
The Civil Guard of Puerto del Rosario (Fuerteventura) arrested, on 24 August, one of the alleged perpetrators—a 23‑year‑old man—of an attempted forced robbery that took place at a public establishment in the town of Caleta de Fuste. The suspects fled after the alarm was triggered.
In a statement, the force explained that a second suspect has also been fully identified; he remains at large and an active arrest warrant has been issued for him.
The incident dates back to 20 August, when, at around 04:50 a.m., two individuals broke a window to gain entry to the premises on Avenida Alcalde Juan Ramón Soto Morales. However, the activation of the alarm system forced them to flee without stealing anything.
During a forensic inspection carried out by the Judicial Police, investigators found footprints and other traces that proved invaluable to the case. Later, the security‑camera recordings from the venue were reviewed, clearly revealing the identities of the perpetrators at several points in the footage.
On 23 August, the victim filed a formal complaint, which allowed the investigation to proceed in full. The following day, after retrieving the establishment’s security recordings, authorities were able to identify the suspects and arrest one of them just an hour later.
The Civil Guard highlighted that the investigation was hampered by the spread on social networks and in the media of private security‑camera images, which were published without authorization and in violation of data‑protection regulations.
The leak alerted the suspects; one of them drastically altered his appearance to evade identification, while the second remains missing after also being recognized in the leaked footage.
The detained individual was presented to the Guard Court of Puerto del Rosario on 25 August and was released after appearing before the judicial authority.
