Over 50 youth join Cabildo and FULP's job placement improvement programs
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura welcomed over fifty participants this year in two initiatives promoted by the Employment Promotion Department and managed by the University Foundation of Las Palmas: the Dual Training Program “Inserta” and the English Language Preparation and Accreditation Program.
Dual Training Program “Inserta”
The Inserta program will enable 23 recent university graduates and vocational‑training graduates to undertake internships with around twenty companies and institutions across Fuerteventura. The scheme combines non‑paid practical stays with theoretical training in employability skills, languages, digital competencies and transversal abilities. Owing to the success of previous editions, the number of beneficiaries has been increased from 14 to 23 participants.
English Language Preparation and Accreditation Program
A total of 31 people are enrolled in the English preparation program, a free initiative aimed at improving language proficiency and facilitating the acquisition of an official English certification. Participants will receive 100 hours of online training and tutoring sessions tailored to their level. The program includes a final official accreditation exam (Oxford University) and, for the first time, an immersion course in which eight participants will take part.
Funding and Impact
Island President Lola García disclosed that the combined investment in both programs amounts to €321,000, co‑financed by the Cabildo of Fuerteventura and the Government of the Canary Islands through the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN).
“It is essential that we continue to promote training actions linked to employment in Fuerteventura, benefiting not only the participants but also the companies that are fundamental to this project,” García added.
“We have the most qualified youth in recent years, and we must support that talent so it can remain on our island.”
Employment Promotion Counselor Nuria Cabrera highlighted the close collaboration between the Cabildo and the University Foundation of Las Palmas that makes these actions possible.
“Each year, demand to join the programs we develop with FULP grows, which is why we have increased the number of participants.”
FULP Managing Director Eduardo Manrique de Lara praised the programs for combining training with the acquisition of diverse competencies that improve access to the labor market. Regarding the Inserta program, he noted:
“We have achieved very good results in Fuerteventura, reaching a job‑placement rate of close to 65 % among participating students, thereby strengthening island employability.”
Manrique thanked the Cabildo for its ongoing commitment to maintaining these initiatives year after year.
