Pájara advances toward its overall plan
Territorial Policy to Issue Environmental Report for Pájara’s General Plan in Q1
The Territorial Policy, Cohesion and Water Minister of the Canary Islands Government, Manuel Miranda, announced this morning that the environmental report for the proposed General Plan of Pájara, on Fuerteventura, will be issued during the first quarter of the year. He made the statement during a meeting with the Urban Planning councilor, Alexis Alonso, and the Director General of Territorial Planning and Cohesion, Onán Cruz.
During the meeting, attended by technical staff from the regional department, the current status of the plan’s processing was reviewed. The final proposal had been submitted by the municipal council a few weeks earlier to the Canary Islands Government. Miranda explained that the Executive will publish the Strategic Environmental Declaration in Q1, after which the required environmental annotations and mandatory reports will be incorporated, allowing the town council to approve the final document.
“Pájara closes with the Territorial Policy Department of the Canary Islands Government the last loose ends for the issuance of the strategic environmental report of the General Plan,” said Councilor Alonso.
Miranda reminded that the Canary Islands Government’s objectives include “continuous and decisive support to municipalities to promote planning, a tool for orderly and cohesive growth.” He highlighted that Pájara received a €113,242 grant in 2024 specifically to advance the document that is now being evaluated from an environmental perspective.
“We expect Pájara to have its new General Plan available throughout 2026,” Miranda added, noting that since 2023 more than €5 million in planning aid has been allocated to 37 municipalities across the Canary Islands.
