Pájara awards new cleaning and waste contract for €5.1 million a year

The Pájara City Council approved on Thursday the award of a new road‑cleaning, public‑building cleaning, and waste‑collection contract for the municipality. The agreement is valued at €5,136,000 per year, amounting to more than €50 million over ten years.

The contract was passed unanimously in the plenary session and represents an expansion of the previous service, with more staff, additional machinery, and a higher cleaning frequency for streets, public buildings, and waste collection.

According to the council, the new contract aims to strengthen one of the essential services in a tourist municipality like Pájara, improving the image of public spaces and delivering a more complete and efficient service.

“This new contract reflects a determined effort to improve the image of our municipality, with a notable increase in the number of operators and resources available,” said Salah Chehaib, Councilor for Services and Cleaning.

“It is an essential service for a tourist destination, and the new contract improves the economic conditions of the existing staff,” emphasized Alexis Alonso, First Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Urbanism.

“Resolving the cleaning issue was one of the great challenges of this mandate,” declared Alejandro Jorge, Mayor of Pájara. “The agreement meets residents’ demands, and we thank the opposition for its favorable vote.”
