Pájara Becomes Global Sailing Hub with the 44Cup
Pájara Drives the Arrival of International Sailing to Marina Jandía
The prestigious 44Cup will be held at Marina Jandía from November 18 to 23, in an event organized by Calero Marinas and Puertos Canarios. This will be the first time the RC44 class competes in Fuerteventura, cementing the island as a top‑tier nautical destination.
The arrival of the 44Cup at Marina Jandía highlights both the development of new port infrastructure capable of hosting international competitions and the exceptional wind and sea conditions that make the Canary Islands a unique venue for high‑level sailing.
The event enjoys broad institutional and private support, led by the Pájara City Council, which from the outset has recognized the potential of these nautical competitions to promote sport, tourism and the local economy. Additional backing comes from the Canary Islands government, the Fuerteventura Island Council through the Tourism Department, the Jandía Peninsula Yacht Club, the Morro Jable Fishermen’s Brotherhood, R2 Hotels and Cicar.
Alejandro Jorge, Mayor of Pájara:
“ the municipality of Pájara, hosting an international test as prestigious as the 44Cup is a major step. Holding it in the port of Morro Jable reinforces our commitment to diversification, not only of the tourist offer but also of the sporting arena. From our institution we will continue to collaborate with all entities that make it possible progressively, for events of this level to arrive, as they help position our municipality in the eyes of the world.”
José Benito Alonso, Sports Councilor of Pájara:
“From the Sports Department of the Pájara City Council it is an honor to receive an event of this level. We are talking about Formula 1 in the world of sailing, a competition that will generate a very positive economic impact for both our municipality and the entire island. Such sporting events, together with our windsurf and wingfoil championships, reinforce Pájara’s position as a global sporting and tourist reference.”
The 44Cup at Marina Jandía represents a historic milestone for the island and the municipality of Pájara, strengthening its international profile and its commitment to sport, tourism, and the sustainable development of the Jandía coast.
