Pájara Claims at Fitur It’s Spain’s Longest‑Stay Tourist Destination

The southern Fuerteventura municipality showcased its major tourism‑related events at the fair, including the World Windsurfing and Windfoil Championship, the Cultural Week at Playa de la Cebada, and the Urban Viewpoints Route.

The Pájara City Council presented its promotional video on the second day of the Madrid International Tourism Fair (FITUR) at the stand of the Canary Islands Tourist Municipalities Association. The council reaffirmed that the southern‑Fuerteventura municipality continues to be Spain’s destination with the longest average stay—a distinction it has earned before.

Four flagship events slated for the coming months were also announced:

  • World Windsurfing and Windfoil Championship
  • Cultural Week at Playa de la Cebada
  • Christmas programme
  • Urban Viewpoints Route

Mayor Alejandro Jorge, First Deputy Mayor Alexis Alonso, Tourism Councilor Tina Da Silva, and Beaches Councilor Raimundo Dacosta highlighted that Pájara is solidifying its position as the Spanish tourist spot with the highest average stay.

“Pájara consolidates itself as the destination with the longest average stay in Spain,” the officials said.

Tourist Spending per Visitor Rises by €200

In an official communiqué, municipal authorities explained that hotel occupancy stays above 80 % year‑round and that average tourist spending has increased by €200 per visitor. The figures illustrate a healthy trend for the local tourism sector.

The municipal representatives expressed satisfaction with the data supplied by the Tourism Board, while stressing the need for continuous improvement. They also underscored the commitment of:

  • Large companies
  • Small and medium‑sized enterprises (SMEs)
  • Entrepreneurs, workers, and the broader citizenry

According to the council, the collaborative effort between public institutions and the community is a key factor that will keep Pájara among the world’s leading tourist destinations.
