Pájara Council Improves Fuerteventura Summit Trails
The trail to Pico de la Zarza, one of the most emblematic natural routes on Fuerteventura, now boasts a refreshed appearance after improvement works carried out by Gesplan crews as part of a project funded by the Pájara Town Hall.
The interventions focused on:
- Conditioning the terrain and filling holes.
- Removing loose stones and eliminating secondary paths.
- Enhancing safety and the overall experience for hikers.
The route climbs to the highest point of Jandía, offering one of the most spectacular views of the island. To preserve this natural environment, the work was performed manually and selectively, respecting the terrain’s characteristics and avoiding aggressive interventions.
During the works, four archaeological sites were identified in the area. No alterations were made to these locations to ensure the protection of the region’s historical and cultural heritage.
The project began in November 2025 with a comprehensive technical review of the trail using GPS technology and digital cartography to detect risks and improve traversability.
From March to April, the execution phase proceeded despite adverse weather conditions that required adaptations to some tasks. The result is a safer, more accessible, and better‑defined trail that allows visitors to enjoy the ascent to Pico de la Zarza while preserving the natural essence of this unique Fuerteventura landscape.
