Pájara Strikes Deal with Princess Hotels to Hire Abuse Survivors

The Pájara City Council and Princess Hotels Canarias have signed the island’s first agreement to support and facilitate the employment of gender‑based violence victims, establishing measures for accompaniment, training and awareness to ensure workplace integration.

The Social Services Department of the Pájara City Council, through its Women’s Programme, and the hotel chain Princess Hotels Canarias formalised on Monday the signing of the first Fuerteventura‑wide agreement aimed at promoting the labour insertion of women who are victims of gender‑based violence.

The ceremony, held at the Town Hall, was attended by:

  • Mayor Alejandro Jorge
  • Social Services councilor Kathaisa Rodríguez
  • Director of Princess Jandía & Fuerteventura, Roberto González
  • Human‑Resources director of Princess Jandía & Fuerteventura, Lorena Rodríguez
  • Training and Development manager of Princess Jandía & Fuerteventura, María Padilla

The pact provides for the initial hiring of four women from the municipality by the hotel chain, guaranteeing confidentiality and continuous support throughout their integration process.

“This agreement shows that when public administrations and the private sector work together, we can create real opportunities for society. Our goal is to give these women a path to autonomy and security,” said councilor Kathaisa Rodríguez.

“We appreciate Princess Hotels’ commitment, because this close collaboration with the City Council and the organisations fighting gender violence is essential; it allows us to optimise resources and achieve our objectives,” added Mayor Alejandro Jorge.

In addition, the City Council announced that it will cooperate in:

  • Providing training on equality and diversity for the hotel’s staff
  • Setting up a dedicated space within the hotel for advice and information
  • Implementing various social‑awareness actions

The agreement, valid for one year with the possibility of renewal, foresees the creation of a mixed monitoring commission to ensure the objectives are met and to evaluate the progress achieved.
