Pájara's governing coalition fulfills key pledge by awarding new cleaning contract

The agreement includes more staff, machinery and cleaning frequency, which will improve the municipality’s image and services, approved unanimously in the plenary session

The Pájara City Council approved yesterday the award of a new contract for street cleaning, public‑building maintenance and waste collection, valued at €5.136 million per year. Over the next ten years this represents a commitment of more than €50 million.

The decision was taken after a debate and vote in the plenary chamber, in line with one of the key promises made by the governing coalition at the start of the current term: to improve the cleanliness and image of the municipality’s public spaces.

“This new contract reflects a decisive effort to enhance the image of our municipality, with a notable increase in the number of operators and available resources,” said Salah Chehaib, councilor responsible for Services and Cleaning.

“It is an essential service for a tourist municipality like Pájara, which must remain clean and well‑kept,” explained Alexis Alonso, first deputy mayor and councilor for Urban Planning. “The economic conditions of existing staff are also being improved.”

Mayor Alejandro Jorge expressed his satisfaction with the support received in the plenary and emphasized that “solving the cleaning issue was one of the great challenges of this mandate, and fulfilling this commitment means meeting the demand of our neighbours.” He added, “We appreciate the opposition’s recognition by voting in favour of this important measure.”

The contract expands on the previous service, adding more personnel and machinery, as well as increasing the cleaning frequency. This will allow the council to provide a more comprehensive and efficient service to the citizens of Pájara.

With this award, the City Council takes a firm step toward modernising and optimising the cleaning service, guaranteeing a cleaner, safer and more sustainable municipality.
