Passenger transport disrupted Sep 15‑16 in Fuerteventura
CCOO calls for strike in regular interurban passenger transport in Las Palmas province
The Federation of Citizen Services of the Workers’ Commissions in the Canary Islands (FSC‑CCOO) has announced a strike in the regular interurban road passenger‑transport sector of the province of Las Palmas, affecting the islands of Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria.
The decision comes after noting the lack of progress in the collective‑bargaining table, whose agreement dates back to January 2025. Despite union proposals, the employers’ association – the Association of Regular Passenger Transport Companies (ARV) – has not presented a clear counter‑proposal nor shown willingness to reach an accord that guarantees parity of working conditions in the province.
Reasons for the strike
- Stalled sector‑wide collective‑bargaining negotiations.
- Employers’ intention to replace the collective agreement with a framework deal that would fragment rights and undermine uniform working conditions.
- Refusal to guarantee a stable agreement until 2032.
- Opposition to a unified wage table that would prevent disparities among workers performing the same tasks.
The strike aims to secure a provincial collective agreement, include staff subrogation in case of contract or concession changes, reduce the weekly working time to 37.5 hours, achieve wage standardisation, fully incorporate legal updates on permits and licences, and ensure equal conditions for all sector workers in Las Palmas.
Strike schedule
- Lanzarote and Fuerteventura: September 15 and 16, with intermittent service interruptions from 06:00 to 10:00 and 17:00 to 21:00.
- Gran Canaria: September 17 and 18, following the same intermittent interruption pattern.
Opening to dialogue
The Strike Committee and FSC‑CCOO reaffirm their willingness to resume talks with the business side, either directly or through the Canary Islands Labour Tribunal, with the goal of reaching an agreement that guarantees rights and ends the conflict.
