Paving Begins Today on 8 km of FV‑2 Between Pecenescal and the Las Gaviotas Roundabout

It is one of the island’s busiest stretches and suffers widespread surface wear

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura, through its Roads Service, began today the paving works and the replacement of traffic signs and road‑safety elements on an eight‑kilometre section of the FV‑2, between Pecenescal and the Las Gaviotas roundabout (the traffic circle featuring children’s sculptures). This segment is one of the most heavily used on the island, and therefore shows extensive surface deterioration that will now be corrected.

“Continuous maintenance of the island’s road network is essential; these works are key to preserving the roads in good condition and to improving safety and comfort for users across the entire territory,” said Cabildo President Lola García.

“Vehicle‑traffic safety is vital for family and social routines as well as for economic activity. Moreover, our road infrastructure is a showcase that reflects the quality of our tourist destination and influences the satisfaction that visitors carry back home, sharing it with their circles of influence,” explained Roads Counselor Blas Acosta.

The works launched today cover the stretch between kilometre markers 74.3 and 82.3 of the FV‑2. In this section the following operations will be carried out:

  • Milling of the road surface and adjacent zones to eliminate steps between the ditch and the pavement.
  • Cleaning and sealing of pavement cracks.
  • Renewal of the wearing course.
  • Replacement of horizontal traffic markings.
  • Replacement of vertical traffic signs.
  • Replacement of road‑marking devices such as cat‑eye reflectors, cylindrical beacons, vertex markers, edge markers, etc.
  • Restoration of the drainage system.

To minimise disruption, the paving and safety‑equipment replacement will be performed lane by lane, keeping the opposite lane open in the same direction.

Continuous road maintenance is the most effective way to preserve safety levels and reduce costs; neglecting these infrastructures would require far larger investments to restore them later. Consequently, careful planning of conservation works is a priority for the Cabildo’s Roads Service.
