Peña Armas Elected President of Fuerteventura Avanza
Fuerteventura Avanza held its first Island Congress on Friday, an event that organizers said “exceeded all expectations,” reflecting what they described as the strength, unity and growth of the political project.
In this context, Peña Armas was elected the new president of Fuerteventura Avanza, a appointment that marks the start of “a new stage for the party—more consolidated, more mature, and with a clear direction for the coming years.”
During the Congress, three policy papers were approved to guide the party’s political action:
- Statutes Paper – defines the internal structure, the new Island Committee and the Executive Commission, which includes the Presidency, Vice‑Presidency, Organization Secretariat, two Vice‑Secretariats and 20 members. It establishes a model based on transparency, internal democracy and active participation of the membership.
- Social Paper – proposes a municipal model focused on prevention, equality, human dignity and modern, robust social services.
- Ideological Paper – reinforces the principles and values that underpin the project: proximity, commitment, responsibility, keeping one’s word, citizen participation and defending Fuerteventura’s interests above partisan colors.
“The party reiterated its commitment to a close, human and honest politics; a politics that arises from listening and standing beside people, without distances or offices that separate representatives from neighbors,” the press release explained.
The newly elected president, Peña Armas, highlighted the importance of the Congress and expressed deep gratitude for the commitment shown by the attendees.
“We were born from discontent, from the fatigue of traditional parties. We were created to demonstrate that there is another way to do politics—close, brave, honest, and in service of people,” Armas recalled.
Fuerteventura Avanza thanked Primero Canarias, Contigo, the Municipal Assemblies of Fuerteventura, Nueva Canarias and other municipalist forces that participated in this historic Congress.
To close the event, the new president delivered a clear message:
“Fuerteventura Avanza calls on all political forces with a municipalist vocation to consolidate projects that bring stability to our institutions.”
