Plane bound for Fuerteventura makes emergency landing after losing an engine mid‑flight
The plane, cruising at 11 kilometers (approximately 36,000 feet) over Portugal, ultimately landed at Faro Airport.
A Jet2 Boeing 737‑800 was en route from London Stansted to Fuerteventura, Canary Islands, when it lost an engine at a cruising altitude of 11 300 metres.
At the time of the incident, the aircraft was flying over southern Portugal.
The pilots declared an emergency (code 7700 on the transponder, 121.50 on the radio), descended to a suitable altitude, and chose to land at Faro Airport, located in the southern part of Portugal.
As is standard in such situations, airport emergency services were activated, but there were no complications: the aircraft touched down safely at 10:48 a.m. this morning.
