Police seize Italian tourist's two medical reports
“Investigate the actions at the Corralejo Health Center in case there was any negligence,” reports La Nazione.
The death of an Italian tourist on the island of Fuerteventura continues to dominate headlines in the Italian press. In this case, the story is being covered by La Nazione, the leading newspaper of Florence and the Tuscany region.
Spanish judicial authorities have ordered an autopsy to determine whether Letizia’s death was a tragic accident or a case of medical negligence. At the same time, police have seized the two medical reports the tourist received during her visits to the emergency department in Corralejo.
According to La Nazione:
“Letizia, a sales representative for a food‑processing company, flew from Pisa in the early hours of 31 December seeking a few days of sun and relaxation to break the harsh winter. She had booked an apartment in Corralejo and trusted a friend on the island. Walter, a Florentine who had relocated to Fuerteventura, accompanied her to the emergency room as soon as she began feeling ill after disembarking from the plane.”
“However, after returning to her room, the symptoms persisted. In the afternoon she went back to the hospital, this time by ambulance, and was discharged after receiving an intravenous line and a medical prescription.”
She sent a final WhatsApp message to her friend Walter, telling him she didn’t feel like going to dinner. They had planned to talk again the next morning. After that call at 22:57, no one heard from Letizia Ciampi again—not Walter on the island, nor the many friends she had worldwide.
Following the prolonged and suspicious silence, Walter began searching for the owner of the apartment. Firefighters eventually forced entry, breaking down the door. Since it was locked from the inside, the owner could not open it with the keys. Letizia was found lying on the bed in a fetal position, with a few drops of blood on the sheets, and she was not breathing.
“The police have seized the medical reports issued by the Corralejo health center and will likely interview the doctors while awaiting the autopsy results,” La Nazione explains.
Comment from a local reader: “The information is confusing; they refer to a hospital in Corralejo, but there is no hospital in Corralejo.”
