Port Activity Drops in the Capital

Puerto del Rosario loses 1.41 % of cargo and 5.5 % fewer passengers in February

According to a statement from the Port Authority of Las Palmas, February ended with a positive trend in the main indicators, driven by growth in passenger traffic, the dynamism of cruise tourism, and an overall increase in cargo traffic across its five ports. This upbeat picture comes despite the dock at Puerto del Rosario experiencing declines in both cargo and passenger volumes so far this year.

  • Port of La Luz (Las Palmas): 4,902,414 tons accumulated up to February, a 5.36 % increase compared with the same period in 2025.
  • Port of Arrecife: 321,362 tons, up 0.37 %.
  • Port of Puerto del Rosario: 273,093 tons, 1.41 % less than in 2025.
  • Port of Salinetas: 106,491 tons, an increase of 5.54 %.
  • Port of Arinaga: 52,180 tons, up 0.95 %.

In the combined January‑February period, Puerto del Rosario recorded 159,775 passengers, a 5.57 % drop compared with the same period in 2025. Within this decline, cruise traffic remains the main factor, with 154,405 cruise passengers, 5.51 % fewer than a year earlier.
