Port repairs Oasis leaks and upgrades the pool gym

The Puerto del Rosario City Council has begun waterproofing works on the Oasis Pavilion. The corrective intervention aims to eliminate the roof leaks that have plagued the municipal sports facility. According to the council’s statement, specialized workers performing high‑altitude tasks are carrying out the work, which is expected to last about one week.

“These measures are fundamental to keep public spaces in proper condition,” said Mayor David de Vera.

The council emphasized that the repair is essential to ensure the pavilion can be used safely, especially during rainstorms when the infiltrations become most noticeable. Sports Councilor Luis Chacón added that the work was a priority because the leaks were causing inconvenience for clubs and regular users.

Visit and Modernisation of the Municipal Pool Fitness Room

In parallel, the council announced a new modernisation phase for the Municipal Pool, focusing on a complete overhaul of the fitness room. The announcement followed a site visit by Mayor David de Vera and Sports Councilor Luis Chacón.

The renovation has introduced state‑of‑the‑art equipment and re‑configured the training areas, adding:

  • A dedicated cardiovascular zone
  • An expanded free‑weight area
  • A targeted‑weight zone equipped with ergonomic machines

The pool’s services are provided by the contracted company Lude Gestiones y Servicios, S.L., operating under the CDO (Club de Deporte y Ocio) brand. According to Councilor Chacón, the upgrade aims to deliver safer, more adaptable training options for users of all skill levels.

The council thanked users for their patience during the works on the Oasis Pavilion, noting that both projects are part of ongoing maintenance and improvement of municipal sports facilities.

Leak Repairs Following the “Fuerteventura Avanza” Complaint

The council’s announcement comes days after the political group Fuerteventura Avanza publicly criticised the condition of municipal sports facilities, highlighting maintenance shortcomings and a lack of new projects under the current administration. The group singled out the Oasis Pavilion, where roof leaks—especially in winter—were disrupting regular sporting activities.

“The situation forced some clubs to cut training hours or use unsuitable spaces,” said Alexis Cabello, councilor for Fuerteventura Avanza. “We need a medium‑ and long‑term plan that includes preventive maintenance and new sports infrastructure.”

Fuerteventura Avanza called for a strategic shift in municipal sports management to address these issues.
