PP after Tuineje mayor's resignation: “CC is right”
The Populars wish Candelaria Umpiérrez good luck and extend a hand to whoever assumes the mayoralty, but reject the “inherited problems” argument raised by the nationalist formation
The Popular Party (PP) of Tuineje issued a public statement after Coalición Canaria announced that the mayor of Tuineje has resigned from office.
“We respect the personal and political decision taken by Candelaria Umpiérrez, and we wish her all the best in her future endeavors.”
The party also emphasized that the resignation confirms a long‑standing PP assessment:
“With this resignation, Coalición Canaria gives us the reason and confirms what we have been warning about for a long time: the situation in the Tuineje City Council was politically and administratively unsustainable. The governing coalition turned a blind eye for far too long, resulting in a deterioration of basic and essential services for the residents of our municipality.”
According to the PP, the mismanagement by the CC‑PSOE coalition is dragging the entire island of Fuerteventura, from north to south, into a clear regression:
“This mismanagement has hit Tuineje especially hard, where the lack of solutions to daily problems has left the municipality without a political direction.”
Nearly three years after the coalition took office, the PP rejects the claim that the current difficulties are merely “inherited problems” used to justify inaction:
“They continue to argue that these are inherited problems, but that is not the case.”
The party also argues that the resignation does not represent a real change, but rather a temporary episode caused by the evident political wear‑out of Coalición Canaria in Tuineje, which it says will be unable to sustain an exhausted model until 2027:
“The move does not constitute a genuine change; it is simply an eventuality driven by the clear political fatigue of Coalición Canaria, which cannot maintain a depleted model that is out of touch with the real needs of the citizens.”
Nevertheless, the PP of Tuineje concluded by extending an olive branch to the new administration:
“We extend our hand to the CC‑PSOE government and to whoever assumes the mayoralty, focusing on what truly matters: the residents of our municipality. In the PP they will find an ally to manage problems and find solutions through dialogue, cooperation, and institutional loyalty—what all of us who live here deserve.”
The PP of Fuerteventura released a communiqué containing these statements. The document was not attributed to any specific party member, although the island‑wide leadership includes Jéssica de León and the municipal leadership includes Esther Hernández.
