PP says more cars

The People’s Party (PP) has expressed concern over the growing accumulation of abandoned cars at various locations in Puerto del Rosario, attributing the problem to the lack of an operational municipal deposit. According to the party, this issue reflects a failure by the governing coalition “to resolve it even though more than half of the legislative term has already passed.”

The PP points out that the contract governing the municipal deposit service has expired, preventing the municipality from having an adequate space to collect and store abandoned vehicles. This, they say, is causing numerous cars to remain on streets, public areas, and vacant lots throughout the town.

In response, the People’s Party announced that it will again request at the next municipal plenary session that, as a matter of urgency, the necessary procedures be launched to establish a municipal deposit that can effectively address the problem.

“It has been a year and a half since we warned about this situation and proposed solutions, but the governing group voted against it, claiming they were working on it; today the reality is clear: nothing has been done and the municipality is paying the consequences,” said Ana Padilla, PP spokesperson on the City Council.

Councilor Fernando Enseñat added:

“Puerto del Rosario is presenting an unfit image for an island capital, with neighborhoods saturated by abandoned vehicles that reduce parking spaces and create a sense of neglect that legitimately worries residents.”
“The accumulation of these vehicles on plots near homes adds an extra risk, as any incident could cause serious damage to the families living nearby.”

In a press release sent to the media, the People’s Party reiterated that the situation harms the municipality’s image, safety, and residents’ quality of life. They urged the governing coalition to give immediate priority to this issue and act to meet a demand they consider real and growing in Puerto del Rosario.
