PP slams court's confirmation of Costa Calma nursery eviction
Following the Provincial Court of Las Palmas’ confirmation of the eviction of the municipal nursery in Costa Calma—upholding the landowner’s claim—the People’s Party (PP) of Pájara accuses the town hall of lacking foresight.
The People’s Party of Pájara has publicly condemned the municipal administration after the Provincial Court of Las Palmas confirmed the eviction of the Costa Calma municipal nursery, a decision reported by several island media outlets on Thursday, 21 May.
The dispute dates back to proceedings concerning the plot on Avenida Happag Lloyd, in the Cañada del Río urbanisation, where the nursery is located. In 2024, the court already ruled that the town hall occupied the land without a legitimate title and ordered it to be vacated.
With the Provincial Court’s latest ruling, the legal blow against the southern Fuerteventura local administration is now confirmed, creating uncertainty about the future of the children and families served by the nursery.
The situation is compounded by the fact that the Pájara town hall itself opened the application period for places in all municipal nurseries across the municipality, including those in Costa Calma, Morro Jable, La Lajita and Pájara.
The “Worst Possible Scenario,” According to the PP

The PP’s spokesperson, Miryam de León, argues that the municipal government has long known it needed to negotiate a solution with the landowner. In her view, the lack of anticipation has pushed the town hall into the “worst possible scenario,” leaving an essential service for family work‑life balance in a state of severe uncertainty.
The party maintains that the council should have acted with greater responsibility and legal certainty to safeguard the nursery’s continuity. They also demand that the governing group clearly explain what measures it intends to adopt to prevent interruptions in service for Costa Calma families.
“The town hall must act immediately with full transparency and explain face‑to‑face to residents the real consequences of this ruling, what urgent measures it plans to take, and how it will guarantee that the nursery continues operating without interruptions,” the PP spokesperson said in a statement sent to the media on Friday, 22 May.
