Controversy Over the Omitted Budget Line

President of the Fuerteventura Island Council, Lola García, assured today that the Windsurf and Wing Foil World Championship will continue in Fuerteventura despite the Tourism Board’s budget not including the usual allocation for the event.

The municipality of Pájara explained in a press release yesterday that neither the Tourism Board nor the Tourism Department had incorporated the customary subsidy for the competition, warning that the event was at risk.

In response, the town filed a formal complaint with the Island Council, describing the removal of the earmarked subsidy as “incomprehensible” and stating that it jeopardized the competition’s execution as well as the promotion and dynamism it brings to the island.

San Miguel “Fiestas Juradas”

President García also clarified that she has instructed the Councillor for Finance, Nuria Cabrera, to resolve the misunderstandings caused by these budget omissions, including restoring the funding for the organization of the San Miguel “Fiestas Juradas” in Tuineje, “which will also receive the corresponding allocation.”
