PSOE Accepts Mayor’s Resignation and Calls for a Government Pact

“During the time we have shared in municipal government, our pact has always worked on the basis of mutual respect, dialogue and institutional responsibility.”

The Socialist Party of Tuineje responded to the announcement that Mayor Candelaria Umpiérrez will step down, expressing respect for her personal decision and publicly acknowledging her work leading the town hall during an especially difficult period for municipal management.

The party stressed that this decision must be understood not only as a personal matter but also in the context of the enormous challenges of governing a council weighed down by structural problems inherited from previous administrations. The current municipal reality is characterised by:

  • A severe shortage of staff across virtually all departments.
  • Clearly insufficient budgets, with no significant revenue streams such as tourism.
  • The absence of a General Plan to organise the municipality’s development.
  • Multiple administrative and organisational deficiencies that limit any governmental action.

“Running this town hall under such circumstances is not an easy task. The personal strain is considerable; constant pressure and daily demands take their toll, even affecting health. These circumstances must be taken into account when evaluating a decision that, while respectable, we deeply understand.”

The PSOE of Tuineje also sincerely thanked Candelaria Umpiérrez for her dedication, continuous work, and commitment to addressing the municipality’s real problems and the needs of its residents.

“This decision was unexpected, and, as is logical, we understand her departure. We nevertheless appreciate that she communicated her decision to the governing partners before making it public—a gesture that demonstrates loyalty and political consideration.”

Consequently, the PSOE of Tuineje formally requested the convening of the pact’s monitoring board to analyse the situation, ensure institutional stability, and tackle this new phase through the consensus and responsibility that the municipality of Tuineje deserves.
