PSOE calls for faster repairs to Tarajalejo promenade after coastal approval

The PSOE wants the Canary Islands Government to speed up repairs to Tarajalejo’s storm-damaged promenade, now that the state coastal authority has approved the project.

The PSOE in Fuerteventura has called on the Canary Islands Government to speed up repairs to Tarajalejo’s seafront promenade. The state coastal authority has approved the project.

The appeal was reported on 31 October 2026. Storm Therese severely damaged part of the promenade in March 2026. PSOE members say the damage still affects residents and the local economy.

Who must take the project forward?

Tuineje Council began the formal repair process. The Demarcación de Costas has now approved the project. It is the coastal office of Spain’s Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.

According to the report, the office has confirmed in writing who is responsible for the proposed works. That duty lies with the Canary Islands Government’s Directorate-General for Coasts. The decision allows the project to move through the remaining approval stages. These must be completed before work can begin. Construction has not started.

Miguel Andújar is the PSOE’s general secretary in Tuineje and the council’s public works councillor. He said the council and the state coastal office had done their part. He urged the regional directorate to show the same commitment. Residents should not have to keep putting up with the problem, he argued.

José Cabrera is the Fuerteventura PSOE’s secretary for municipal policy. His role also covers matters affecting farming, fishing and other primary industries. He called on the authorities to work together to repair the storm damage, without electoral point-scoring.

For residents and visitors waiting for repairs, the approval is a step forward in the formal process. The report gives no start date or completion timetable for the works.
