Public Works Gives Final Approval to FV-1 Complementary Works Between La Capellanía and Corralejo
The project, with an investment of €1.85 million, will improve the urban integration of the road by installing acoustic screens and adding a bicycle lane.
The Department of Public Works, Housing and Mobility, through the Directorate General of Road Infrastructure headed by Rosana Melián, has given final approval to the construction of complementary works on the FV‑1 highway, specifically the La Capellanía–Corralejo stretch on the island of Fuerteventura. The total budget amounts to €1,847,268.69, tax included.
The aim of the intervention is to strengthen the functionality and integration of the road within its surroundings, introducing improvements that directly affect residents’ quality of life and the sustainability of the infrastructure. Specifically, the plan includes:
- Installation of acoustic screens in urban areas adjacent to the highway.
- Construction of an adjoining bicycle lane to promote safer and more diversified mobility.
“This initiative, which will enhance the sustainability of the infrastructure and people’s quality of life, is carried out within the framework of our Green Strategy, which places sustainability not as an added label but as a core axis of planning, maintenance, and use of our roads,” said Councillor Pablo Rodríguez.
“We have moved beyond the traditional view of a road as merely a strip of asphalt.”
Rodríguez added that with this approval, the Government of the Canary Islands takes a further step in improving Fuerteventura’s road network, prioritising actions that optimise existing infrastructure and contribute to a more balanced and efficient mobility model.
“The work responds to a historic demand from the local community, who will finally be able to travel safely on a bike from La Capellanía to Corralejo,” said Isaí Blanco, mayor of La Oliva. “This is undoubtedly an important step that brings us ever closer to realising this improvement through inter‑administrative cooperation.”
